Try the heel lock tie method! Your running or trail shoes can make or break your body. If you do not get proper range of motion and have proper interaction with the ground, your gait pattern will be compromised and may lead to injury or pain. One technique that may help create stability in your calcaneus (heel) is the heel lock tying method. Have you ever noticed the extra eyelet on your running shoes and wondered why it is there? It has an important purpose and can help your running gait through all three phases of movement (early, mid and late stance) to make your running or walking more efficient and less prone to injury or blisters. Improving your running or walking will help increase your hip and shoulder mobility.
Here is how you do it:
Tie your shoes as you would. You will take the left lace and loop it through the “heel lock” loop at the top of the left side of your shoe and repeat this for the right lace. Leave a bit of space in this loop. Then take the Right lace and loop it through the left “heel lock” loop and vice versa for the Left lace. To make it tight and secure your heel, take the ends of both laces and pull them down and back to create the “lock”. Finish tying as you would.
